CALIFORNIA DRIVERS WORST IN THE NATION

I recently read an article about the “Best and Worst Drivers by State 2017”, as ranked by an insurance news website.   Is there any surprise that California was ranked the worst?

Some of the key factors contributing to the increase in car-related deaths (since 2015), and in the average cost of a car accident, include the increased amount of miles being driven by Americans, and the fact that drivers are more distracted than ever before when they are behind the wheel.  For example, drivers logged 3.22 trillion miles in 2016, and 660,000 drivers per day are using their electronic devices while behind the wheel.  Other factors considered in the rankings included accidents, speeding tickets, DUI’s, citations and fatalities.

Unfortunately for Californians, these statistics spell out one thing very clearly:  we will pay higher rates for insurance, and we are more likely to use our insurance coverage (because we get into accidents).  Since we are surrounded by bad drivers, it might be a good time to call your insurance agent to check on your coverage, and to review our prior blogs on “The Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda of Auto Insurance Coverage” Part 1 and Part 2.  And should you become involved in a collision, please be sure to contact an experienced attorney to discuss your rights and remedies.
